Police also arrested three men who specialized in the eradication of maize pepper, mixed with sawdust and flour, and then sold the same to the public as pepper.

The police official in Borno said on Sunday, April 30, that it had arrested a driver, Modu Mustapha, presumably buying fuel and food supplies for Boko Haram insurgents.

Damian Chukwu, Police Commissioner in the State, announced it to the Nigerian news agency (NAN) in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno. He added that the suspect was arrested by members of the public after a hint.

He said: "The police received information that a Modu Mustapha from Jumptilo town was a terrorist employee who bought fuel and food for them at Alagarno and other shelters.

"The police came across the suspect, who confessed the crime."

Chukwu said the driver usually catches wood in the woods, where he allegedly met the terrorists.

The police commissioner said: "He said he bought things for the insurgent group.

"We told N10 000 of the suspect, what the terrorists gave him to buy bicycle parts for them."

Chukwu said the suspect also appointed 15 other firewood vehicle drivers involved in similar crime.

According to him, the police have not yet determined the driver's motivation to buy things for the insurgents.

"We could not buy his reasons for buying things for them, whether he was under the influence of spell, forced to do it or willing to do it as their employee," said Chukwu.

He said that due to the nature of the alleged crime, it will be transferred to the army for further action.

The police arrested three men who specialized in saturated salt pepper, mix it with sawdust and flour and sell the same to the public as pepper.

"Those arrested include Bukar Masona, Babakura Umar and Ali Muhammad.

"The forbidden pepper sold to the public is poisonous and unfit for human consumption," he said.

The commissioner said the suspects confessed the crime and will be handed over to NAFDAC for further investigation.
