Ekyo state governor Ayo Fayose has moved to raise funds for leader of Indigenous People of Biafra Nnamdi Kanu.

Nigerian Tribune reports that Fayose, in collaboration with Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, is working on the plans to raise funds for Kanu's family.

On April 26, Fayose said he supported Kanu if he did not have solidarity in court. He has made plans to provide for Kanu's welfare and that of his relatives.

He said: "I try to work with other well-intentioned Nigerians to raise funds for Kanu so that he can finance his lawyers and meet his immediate family needs.

"We will ensure that the injustice measured against him does not destroy him. He cares for parents, women and children. I appeal to Nigerians to support this fair cause."

He added: "As lawyers who are prepared to fight the oppression must join the struggle for liberation of the oppression."

Fayose said Ekwemeradu would look among those looking at the fundraising committee.

"We only drive the cause. Once we receive his account details, we will be made available. The money will be used for him and others in connection with him.

"We believe in Nigeria's society. People have the right to agitate independently. Even in traditional institutions, people are agitating for autonomy.

"If people move and they can not get, they drop the idea. It's not for you to silence them. It's suppression. Agitation is legal."
Former aviation minister Femi Fani-Kayode expressed his delight in the new alliance between Yorubas and Igbos on the continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu.

He said the alliance meant that the south would come together..
