a conflict between Nigeria army and
policemen over a sweetheart left four mobile
cops and one fighter dead in
Damaturu, Yobe State capital, yesterday, with
a few others injured.
Among the injured versatile cop is
Buba Dauda, the Mobile Commander in Yobe
Express, whose snatching by the fighters in the
small hours of yesterday set off the go head to head
between the two security organizations.
Vanguard gathered from sources that the
conflict came about because of a misunderstanding that
emitted between a serving Army Captain and
some versatile policemen over a sweetheart the
military officer supposedly grabbed from a
versatile policeman.
The circumstance did not run down well with the
policeman, who activated his associates to
beat the Captain incapacitated.
On hearing what happened to their partner,
a few fighters raged the living arrangement of the
police group's supervisor in the zone in two watch
vans and took him to an obscure destination.
It was gathered that the battle started when
some versatile policemen likewise collaborated to
stand up to the officers regarding the
whereabouts of their Commander.
Officer's account
According to a versatile cop, who
addressed Vanguard at Yobe State Specialist
Doctor's facility, where the Mobile Commander is
receiving treatment, "we got the news
that our commandant, CSP Buba Dauda, was
snatched by a few officers and taken to
Sasawa town and later taken to 233
Unit in Damaturu.
"We then activated our men to protect our
commandant, in spite of the fact that we didn't know why
he was kidnapped.
"During the time spent rescuing him, we met with
solid resistance from the warriors, which later
come about into all out conflict that left five
individuals dead.
"We lost four of our men and we later
found that our commandant, while in their
care, was shot in the abdomen."
CSP Dauda was not able address Vanguard.
He remained still on the healing center bed
after the operation to expel shots from his
abdomen.
Armed force responds
Confirming the incident, Deputy Director, Army
Advertising, Col. Kayode Ogunsanya, said
a joint board of trustees, made up of military and
police staff, had been set up to
investigate the matter.
His words: "A joint board of trustees between the
Nigerian Army and the Nigerian Police has
been set up to investigate the incident.
"This base camp wishes to guarantee individuals
of the general population that the circumstance has been
brought under control and regularity reestablished."
