House of Rep reject Bill to the National Assembly impeach the state governor and deputy

House of Representatives on Wednesday rejected a Bill for an Act to force the National Assembly to impeach state governors and their deputies.

The bill, sponsored by Rep. Edward Pwajok (Plateau- PDP) to alter the constitution of the country to enable the National Assembly to remove the governor and his deputy in the appropriate circumstance.

Contributing to the debate, Leader of the House, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila (Lagos- APC), said Nigeria federal system of government and not aladiboyan system.


He said the bill did not make any legislative or tax here, will help you undermine the spirit of true federalism in the country.

On his part, Rep. Nicholas Ossia (Delta PDP) said that the success of the business will lead to the collapse of federalism in Nigeria.

He said that even in cases when a state of emergency has been declared in a state, the democratic structures were retained.

According to Ossai, the bill contradicts the Constitution which remains the barometer by which other legal work.

However, Rep. Ali Isa Gombe (PDP) that the country has already forced the House of Representatives to take over a state House of Assembly in times of crisis.

He said that in such circumstance, will also take on the mission of the church, which are impeaching the state governor, adding that there was no need for money.

Rep. Osun State Hulayat (APC) said that the National Assembly the power to remove the president of the country and the Vice President.

He said that empowering the National Assembly to remove the governor and by extension, local governments, State legislators will make the "omnipotent."

After the debate, the sponsor of the bill, Rep. Edward Pwajok, avoid fees.
