A man whose identity has been protected by a
Local church in Makurdi, has stunned church
individuals with a tithe offering of N42 million.
Investigations by the News Agency of Nigeria
(NAN) in Makurdi uncovered that the cash was
paid into the UBA account of the NKST Church
Abnormal state Makurdi.
Although the pastor of the congregation, Dr.
Frederick Ikyaan, initially precluded information from securing
the offering, a duplicate of the congregation's quarterly
budgetary report, covering the months of
January – March, affirmed the payment of
N42million tithe to the congregation.
The report demonstrated that the lodgement was
the highest single offering from a person
for the quarter.
The cash was paid into the congregation's account
in January.
The breakdown of the congregation's budgetary report
demonstrated a pay of N56.2 million and an
expenditure of N33.7 million within the same
time outline.
The congregation's records likewise demonstrated that out of
the pay, N44.6 million was generated from
tithe offerings while a solitary individual accounted
for N42 million.
Reacting to the budgetary report, the pastor
said his initial dissent depended on the
allegations that the contributor was an appointee of
the Benue government.
" I still stand by my words that the individual that
gave us that cash is not an appointee of the
state government. In fact, he doesn't even
stay in Benue but is an indigene of the state."
He said there was nothing amiss with the
offering and insisted that the congregation had
nothing to stow away.
In the interim, the tithe offering has stirred
controversy in a state struggling to pay the
pay rates of specialists.
Open talk centered on the legitimacy of
the givers wage, as a man who pays N42m
to a congregation as tithe must have made an
wage of N420 million in the month that he
paid.
The NKST Church is an abbreviation for 'Non
go Kristu U Sudan hen Tiv', which means the
Church of Christ Amongst the Tiv
