Army attack Boko Haram and seized 556 cattle

- The order of the police said that it had arrested 536 cattle suspected of being stolen

- The animals included 370 cows and 157 goats and sheep

- They were retrieved by the army in various operations

The birth of Borno's police said on Thursday that he arrested 536 cattle allegedly stolen by the Boko Haram insurgents.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Damian Chukwu, announced that news were reported to Maiduguri.

Chukwu explained that the animals consisting of 370 cows and 157 goats and sheep by the army in its various operations in the state story.

"The army did a good job in the fight against Boko Haram, and many suspects arrested the process.

"On 7 April, 379 cows, 157 goats and sheep were ordered by the headquarters of the 8 Task Force department, Munguno.

'' The cattle were recovered by the task force during the course of the operations.

"While some were left by fleeing terrorists, others were intercepted during the operations of the elements," he said.

He said the police had made great efforts to track the right owners.


"Our duty is to return the cattle to the original owners, so we appeal to individuals who lost their cattle to identify and claim them.

"We showed them at the Federal SARS office near the Maiduguri airport for people to see," the commissioner said.

He encouraged individuals who lost their cattle to speed up and claim them.

"People must have identity and demand them on time because there is a restriction on which we can retain it.

"They have been in custody for two weeks, we fed and treated the sick among them. There is a restriction we can continue to keep them," said Chukwu.

He said that after a certain period the cattle will be auctioned to the people without anyone claiming them.

"We will be forced to seek court orders to sell them after a certain period of time.

"They will be sold through a public auction if nobody shows it to claim them," he said.

Meanwhile, former President Goodluck Jonathan has claimed that Boko Haram attacks in the country were reduced because Nigeria is currently being controlled by a president with a Muslim background.

Jonathan made this claim in an released book, "Against The Run of Play", written by the chairman of this day's editorial board, Olusegun Adeniyi.

He is said that what happened to Boko Haram was the same thing that happened to him with regard to Niger Delta militants in 2007.
